Statement on Retirement of SEEC Co-Founder and Vice-Chair Rep. Steve Israel

January 14, 2016

On January 5, 2016 SEEC Co-Founder and Vice-Chair Rep. Steve Israel (NY-03) announced that he would not seek reelection this year to the 115th Congress. SEEC members released the following statement.

“In 2009, Rep. Israel convened a small group of Members to form the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) with the goal of advancing policies that would promote clean energy, create green jobs, help arrest global warming and protect our nation’s clean air, water and natural environment. Since then SEEC has grown to over 50 members and won important victories to bolster clean energy, defend against anti-environmental attacks, and elevate climate change as one of the most important issues of our time. Rep. Israel’s leadership as a founder, former Co-Chair and current Vice-Chair of SEEC is a testament to his devotion to environmental protection and to his foresight on the benefits of growing a clean energy economy. His leadership on these and myriad other issues will be missed, but his legacy as an environmental and clean energy champion will be preserved through SEEC. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
